NZALT is proud to offer two awards for teachers of languages.

Nominations for the NZALT awards are called for in each conference year. For 2016 brief Expressions of Interest close on Wednesday 10th February 2016.   EOIs will be discussed by the Executive, and full nominations will be called for.  Full nominations, which need to be submitted by Monday 11th April 2016, should follow the relevant criteria for the award.

Excellence in Teaching Languages Award

This award recognises the work of a member in the field of languages teaching in either the primary, secondary or tertiary sector. The Excellence in Teaching Languages Award consists of a citation and a taonga and is open to all members of NZALT. Nominees must have been a member for at least five years. The recipients will be announced and presented at an appropriate NZALT event.

Nomination and selection criteria for Excellence in Teaching Award

  • Written statement from each person making the nomination; a copy of the nominee’s CV and may also include letters of support.
  • Nominees must have been a member of NZALT for at least five years.
  • An award committee comprised of the President of NZALT and two other members of the NZALT Executive will consider the nominations and decide on recipients of the awards.

Expressions of interest:  if you would like to nominate someone for this award, please e-mail [email protected] by Wednesday 10th February 2016, stating your name, the name of the nominee, the institution where the nominee works, and a brief statement (up to 150 words maximum) supporting why you wish to nominate this person.   EOIs will be discussed by the Executive, and, if successful, full applications will be invited.

Peter and Eunice Beveridge Award for Outstanding Leadership in Languages

This award recognises leadership in languages' teaching and learning in a primary secondary to tertiary institution in New Zealand.
The award consists of a citation and a trophy and is open to those nominated by two current members of NZALT. The recipients will be announced and presented at an appropriate NZALT event.

Nomination and selection criteria for Peter and Eunice Beveridge Award

  • A written statement from the two NZALT members making the nomination; and may also include other letters of support.
  • An award committee from members of the NZALT Executive will consider the nominations and decide on recipient of the awards.

Peter and Eunice Beveridge Award for Outstanding Leadership in Languages will be judged on the nominee’s contribution to the languages community. It will recognise the work that is deemed by members to be noteworthy in the field of leadership in languages learning.
The judges have the right not to make an award, and their decision is final.

Entries for both awards must be made on the appropriate NZALT award nomination form and a digital (scanned) copy emailed to [email protected] by the published due date in a conference year (in 2016 this date is Monday 11th April).
