Public Lecture by Professor Jack C. Richards
The Faculty of Education and Social Work at the University of Auckland is pleased to invite members to a public lecture on language teaching to be given by Professor Jack C. Richards. The lecture is entitled "How well does a language teacher need to know a language, to teach it? The impact of language proficiency on teaching ability." The lecture, the main context of which will be the teaching and learning of English as an additional language, will address the challenges arising from limitations in teachers’ command of any language they are expected to teach (e.g., French, Chinese). The lecture will therefore be of particular interest to colleagues who, particularly in the intermediate school sector, are required to introduce programmes in additional languages when their own proficiency in the language they are asked to teach is still developing.
